Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase Qualitative refers to the qualitative assessment of the enzymatic activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, involved in the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), which protects RBC from oxidative damage. G6PD deficiency is an inherited condition leading to hemolytic anemia. The test helps identify individuals with reduced or absent G6PD activity in susceptible individuals to avoid potentially severe hemolytic reactions and complications. Test is performed in hematology on all blood samples testing positive for non-falciparum malaria.
