Allergy to alpha-lactalbumin, a protein present in milk, can trigger an immune response in sensitized individuals presenting as Type 1 hypersensitivity reactions presenting as atopic skin reactions, hives, itching, gastrointestinal symptoms, vomiting, and nausea. Respiratory symptoms like a sore throat, coughing, and wheezing can occur. Severe cases present as anaphylaxis. Healthcare providers utilize this test to determine allergic status and guide allergen-specific immunotherapy.
Important note: Minimum volume is 1 mL and 0.5 mL for every additional allergen.
