Amoxicillin is a commonly used semi-synthetic broad-spectrum penicillin. The β-lactam ring of penicillin is reactive and covalently binds to proteins, thereby forming hapten-carrier conjugates capable of inducing type 1 hypersensitivity reactions. Sensitization occurs through oral administration and presents as urticaria, rhinitis, bronchospasm, maculopapular exanthema, and anaphylaxis. IgE evaluation helps healthcare professionals assess antibiotic allergies and recommend measures to prevent exposure.
Important note: Minimum volume is 1 mL and 0.5 mL for every additional allergen.
