Quercus species (oak tree) are pollinated by slow growing trees known to produce oak pollen. Exposure to pollen through inhalation might induce Type 1 hypersensitivity reaction presenting as allergic rhinitis, allergic rhino-conjunctivitis and asthma in sensitive patients. This test detects specific IgE antibodies involved in causing such allergic reactions.
