The QuantiFERON-TB test measures chemokines interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) release in response to T cells encountering TB bacillar antigens. Mycobacterium tuberculosis-specific antigens are used, and the amount of IFN-γ released is compared to the predetermined cutoff value. A positive result indicates either TB infection or latent TB infection. The test is valuable in diagnosing and managing TB infection for a comprehensive assessment.
