Acid Elution

General Info:

Description:

Fetomaternal hemorrhage (FMH) takes place when there is a break in the placental barrier, permitting blood from the fetal circulation to enter the maternal circulation. During FMH, fetal hemoglobin (HbF) is mixed with maternal blood. An acid-elution assay is performed on maternal blood to assess the quantity of HbF that has entered the maternal circulation.
