Blood Type and Cross-match

General Info:

Description:

Blood typing establishes Red Blood Cell (RBC) membrane antigens as A/B/AB/O and RH positive/negative types or into minor antigen groups. Blood cross-matching is a mandatory pre-transfusion immunohematological test to ensure compatibility of the donor’s blood component with the recipient’s blood. This test detects a possible antigen-antibody reaction between blood cell antigen and serum antibody in recipient and donor blood samples.
