The Brucella Antibody Screen (testing for IgG and IgM) detects Brucella, a Gram-negative coccobacillus that is nonmotile, non-spore-forming, and slow-growing. It spreads to humans through contact with infected animals or their products. This test confirms the infection, differentiates recent from past infections, and guides healthcare providers in starting appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
If Brucella IgG and /or Brucella IgM is positive, Brucella melitensis and Brucella abortus agglutination test and titer will be performed at additional cost.
