Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) basal test is a blood test used to evaluate thyroid function by measuring the TSH level typically in the morning before any food or medication intake.  This test helps to detect subclinical hypothyroidism based on the results from basal and Thyrotropin-releasing hormone stimulated TSH levels.
