The Epstein Barr Virus Antibodies test detects the presence of Epstein Barr virus, a DNA virus targeting B lymphocytes. Also called human herpesvirus 4, it’s a gamma herpesvirus. This test confirms the infection, distinguishes between acute and chronic cases, and assesses the infection’s activity status, aiding healthcare providers in appropriate management decisions.
EBV ABs testing aid in the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis or if a complication of Epstein-Barr virus infection is suspected.
This profile includes EBNA-1 IgG (EBV Nuclear Antigen 1), EBV VCA IgG (Viral Capsid Antigen IgG) and EBV VCA IgM (Viral capsid Antigen IgM).
If EBV VCA IgM is positive, CMV IgG and CMV IgM will be performed at additional cost.
