Blue mussel is a mollusk commonly consumed globally. Mussel meat might have allergens, such as Myt-e-1, that have been identified to induce Type 1 hypersensitivity reactions, producing anti mussel protein IgE antibodies. Subsequent mussel exposure triggers a histamine surge, causing allergic gastrointestinal symptoms, dermatitis, and anaphylaxis. Healthcare providers use this test to determine allergic status and guide allergen-specific immunotherapy.
Important note: Minimum volume is 1 mL and 0.5 mL for every additional allergen.
