Description:

The methylmalonic acid quantitative test estimates the amount of methylmalonic acid (MMA) in blood or urine. This test is commonly used to diagnose a vitamin B12 deficiency. It is also used to diagnose methylmalonic acidemia. Symptoms of this disorder may comprise vomiting, dehydration, developmental delays, and intellectual disability. The test is included as part of a series of tests called newborn screening.
