Sweat Test

General Info:

Description:

The sweat test is a principal diagnostic test that assesses chloride levels in sweat and is primarily helpful for diagnosing cystic fibrosis (CF). It is indicated for newborn screening in suspected infants and in patients with findings suggesting CF. The test involves stimulating sweat glands to produce sweat and collecting sweat for chloride level analysis. Elevated chloride levels indicate impaired chloride transport, confirming cystic fibrosis.
