Deceased donor organ transplantation virtual crossmatch is compatibility testing between the deceased donor and potential recipient. It is performed prior to without physically performing crossmatch tests. It utilizes data about the recipient’s and donor’s human leukocyte antigen typing and antibody profiles, predicting compatibility. Tests help guide the decision-making process about organ allocation and transplantation during urgent scenarios.
Important note: Virtual crossmatch requests are placed by transplant coordinators by email to the HLA Lab key personnel. Results are reported back to Transplant teams in a timely manner.
